My name is Bruno, I´m a Brazilian English teacher specialized in Applied Linguistics. The Big Bang Theory - Prepositions

Hey guys

In this class I bring to you 2 segments of 2 different episodes from The Big Bang Theory to work prepositions and their differences.

Prepositions can be a confusing study to many students from many different native languages and it is important to always observe how they are used.

1 – Watch the video segment composed by two small independent videos of The Big Bang Theory sitcom.



a- What´s the difference between “drive to work” and “drive from work” said by Sheldon? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
b- What´s the difference between “work with me” and “work for me” said by Sheldon and Raj? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
c- What´s the context of the preposition “to” in the sentences “I´m ready to go home” and “You can come to work for me” said by Sheldon? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

ANSWER KEY
1-
a- "Drive to work" - Preposition "to" in this sentence indicates destination.
"Drive from work" - Preposition "from" indicates origin

b- "Work with me" means that Raj and Sheldon are co-workers, they have the same position
"Work for me" means that Sheldon has a higher position than Raj, he would be his superior.

c- In these sentences the preposition "to" is a connection of purpose. The sentence after the preposition is the purpose of the first sentence.

d- "For" is to indicate a duration of time

e- "From" indicates origin meaning that the department is the origin of the money

AT - Night, Hours

3-
Perfect timing means that they syncronized actions or just had luck on it.
